how to play charades over video call
step 1
Frame the stage
Actor stands back far enough for full arms and torso; light source in front, not behind (backlit charades is just a horror film).
step 2
Feed the words
Open our charades game and screen-share the setup (guesser looks away during word reveal), use the lists below, or text each other word lists in advance to draw from.
step 3
Play the lag rule
When the guesser starts a guess, the actor freezes until it lands - prevents the lag-tangled 'no not that' spiral. Standard no-talking, no-mouthing rules apply.
step 4
Score and swap
Words guessed per 90-second round; swap actor each round; best of six. The winner's prize is choosing the post-game movie, obviously.

Each actor must incorporate one household object per word (as something it isn't). A spatula has played a sword, a microphone, and a dear departed fish in our experience.

The guesser closes their eyes while the actor sets up a frozen pose, then opens them for a single-frame guess. One look, one guess - the photography of charades.
