how to use them well

one question, fully

A deep question answered honestly beats ten answered politely. Draw one, let it breathe, follow the thread. The list will still be here tomorrow.

answer first if you asked

Going first with your own honest answer gives your partner permission to match your depth. Psychologists call it reciprocal self-disclosure; couples call it how 2am conversations happen.

curiosity, not cross-examination

If an answer surprises you, get curious instead of corrective. 'Tell me more about that' keeps the door open; 'why would you feel that way?' closes it.

good questions, answered

The reliable ones touch identity, fear, and love as lived experience: 'When do you feel most loved by me, specifically?', 'What part of yourself are you still learning to accept?', 'What's a fear you have about us that you know isn't rational?' All three are in the list above.
