how to play two-player boggle
step 1
Shake and flip the timer
Standard grid, three minutes, silence except competitive sighing. Write every word of three-plus letters you can chain from adjacent letters.
step 2
The reveal
Read lists aloud alternately. Words you both found cancel to zero - the heartbreak mechanic that defines the game.
step 3
Score the survivors
3-4 letters: 1pt, 5: 2, 6: 3, 7: 5, 8+: 11. Unique long words are the whole strategy.
step 4
Handicap for fairness
If one of you routinely doubles the other's score: give the trailing player 30 extra seconds, or require the stronger player to only count 4+ letter words.
⚔️ duel formats
- 1. Best of five - classic series, loser makes tea for the deciding round.
- 2. Theme hunt - only food words count this round (or animals, or feelings). Grid willing.
- 3. The assassin round - each secretly picks one word from their list as the 'assassin'; if your partner also found it, they steal all its points.
- 4. Word gift - after scoring, each shows the best word the other missed. Technically kind, effectively devastating.
- 5. Lightning ladder - one minute rounds, first to 25 cumulative points takes the match.

no-timer sunday mode
One grid, coffee, no clock - you're done when you're both done. Boggle as slow morning ritual instead of blood sport.
long-distance grid
One partner shakes and photographs the grid; both work from the same image on a call. Reveal is loud and international.

Excellent - arguably best at two: rounds take three minutes, scoring is head-to-head, and the shared-words-cancel rule creates perfect couple drama. Handicaps (above) keep mismatched vocabularies fair.
